German government donates $77,000/- for execution of the Youth in action for Mangrove Project Suriname

On the 23rd of July 2014, The German Ambassador residing in Trinidad, Stefan Schlüter, formally handed over a cheque of $77,000/- to the chairman of the Foundation for Development of Radio & Television in Suriname.

This cheque is intended to implement the foundation’s project: ‘ Youth in action for Mangrove’.

“Youth in action for mangrove” is an awareness program for the youth of Suriname about the importance of the mangrove forest in the ecosystem and the associated actions for the protection, conservation and restoration thereof. Mangrove forests play an important role when it comes to preventing erosion for example in the district of Coronie.

The first phase of this project is developing sufficient awareness material, such as videos, flyers, booklets, leaflets etcetera. An aggressive national awareness program is the next step, which will also include actions for the protection, safeguarding and restoration of mangrove.
