“Taiwan is one of the most important tourism markets for Malaysia,” said Chong Yoke Har, deputy director-general of Tourism Malaysia, who is a memmber of a delegation that arrived on a four-day visit to Taiwan that day to promote tourism.

The delegation, the largest-ever of its kind that the country has sent to Taiwan, comprises over 30 participants from 20 organizations, including Malaysian tourism organizations, government agencies, hotels and tour operators.

Chong said she hopes that with the travel information the delegation can provide to travel agents in Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung, the travel momentum of the Taiwan market can continue to grow.

Malaysia received a record-breaking 280,000 tourists from Taiwan last year, an 18 percent year-on-year increase, Chong noted.

Taiwan is the seventh-largest tourist source for Malaysia, she added.
