Tourism promotion discussed at Expo

PATNA: A seminar on ‘How to promote tourism as an industry in Bihar’ was organized on the fourth day of the six-day-long industrial exhibition titled Destination Bihar Expo-2014, organized jointly by the Bihar Industries Association and state industries department from March 1 to 6 at Gandhi Maidan.

Speaking on the occasion, B Pradhan, principal secretary, state tourism department, said, “Tourism is a good source of foreign exchange and there is immense opportunity for budgeted hotels, so entrepreneurs should come forward.”


He added, “We are in the process of arranging visa on arrival for the nationals of 40 countries at Gaya airport after election. The state government has received Rs 132 cores from the Union government for the development of underdeveloped areas of tourism.” RK Mishra, joint secretary, tourism department, said, “Lots of activities are organized by the government from time to time to promote tourism in the state.”


A question-and-answer session was also held, where KPS Keshri, former BIA president, Manish Tiwari, RK Choudhary and other BIA members raised issues related to development of tourism as an industry in the state.


There are 220 stalls at the expo, including those of iron and steel, plastic and PVC, cement and real estate industries.


A debate competition was also organized in the evening, in which students from CIMAGE and Amity Patna participated enthusiastically. A qawwali programme was presented by Dabbu Shukla and party.
