Adopt sustainable measures, Goa Guv tells tourism industry

Bharat Vir WanchooPANAJI: Goa Governor B V Wanchoo has urged the tourism industry in the state to adopt sustainable measures and promote ethically and morally acceptable norms for the trade.

“I would like to strongly and particularly underscore the need for adopting sustainable measures and promoting ethically and morally acceptable norms for tourism-related activity,” Wanchoo told the gathering last evening while inaugurating third edition of Goa International Travel Mart (GITM), a three day long event.

The Governor said that every region in the world has its own unique and peculiar cultural qualities, moral values and social ethos.

“Be it in the tourism sector or any other sector or field of activity, the development should not in any way tarnish or impinge upon these qualities or promote undesirable and unacceptable traits,” he added.

He said that it is critically important to know to balance between development with culture and social values in the best overall interest of the state.

GITM, organised by Goa tourism department, is a business to business forum and has representatives from 28 countries participating in it.

The Governor advised that we should promote sustainable and clean tourism which should in fact be our forte.

“Effective regulatory measures need to be put in place and should be employed to arrest undesirable activities, if any, in the nature of tourism or promoting tourism, so that development and social values go hand in hand,” he added.
