Goa tourism to have website in 5-6 languages

PANAJI: After relaunching its website recently, Goa tourism now plans to have it in five or six foreign languages.

With Goa tourism keen to increase its inflow of foreign tourists, it will have to adopt innovative ways to bring in more international tourists besides relying on its conventional methods of marketing Goa in the international market. An appealing website in several languages is one of the means.

A tourism official said they intend to set-up the multilingual website in languages like Arabic, German and Russian among others but it will take a while.

Currently, content of the tourism department’s website can be read in any of the foreign languages through a Google translator. A tourism official said they need to have the permanent multilingual website as they are not sure if translations done through the translator are accurate.

This season, Goa has received about 5 lakh international tourists and is hoping to up its tally further in the next season. A tour operator, who said that Goa should have its multilingual website, also pointed out that visa-on-arrival facility, if implemented properly, will certainly help to bring more tourists to Goa from the European markets, who have been going to other destinations thanks to hassle free visa regime in those places.

“A lot will depend on the quality of service at the new terminus at Dabolim airport. If processing of documents takes long-an hour or two, I’m sure European tourists will turn their backs on Goa despite the visa-on-arrival facility,” he pointed out.

“You cannot expect a tourist, after a journey of seven or eight hours, to be kept waiting at the airport for completing formalities,” he added.
