Korean Tourism Organization (KTO) along with Jeju Tourism Organization has signed a Memorandum of Understaning (MoU) with Cathay Pacific Airways, Kim’s Travel and a consortium of ten Indian travel companies, to promote Jeju Island in South Korea as a MICE destination in India. The consortium includes Akbar Travels, Club Mahindra Travel, Cox & Kings Ltd, JTB Travels Pvt Ltd, Kesari Tours, Mercury Travels, Orbitz Corporate & Leisure Travels (I) Pvt Ltd, Trail Blazer Tours India Pvt Ltd, Thomas Cook (India) Ltd and TUI India.

KTO had organised an Incentive Travel Mart, which was followed by ‘Korea Incentive Night’, in Mumbai led by KTO, New Delhi. The Mart comprised delegates from regional tourism organisations from Jeju, Gyeonggi, Busan province, Destination Management Companies (DMCs) and cultural troupe from Korea. This has been the biggest group of delegates’ of ten organisations and over 30 people from Korea visiting India till date. The Mart received a great response from the Indian travel trade with the suppliers having received bookings at the event itself.

Jeju Island, located 130 km off the coast of South Korea, is an ideal holiday destination with subtropical forests, lava caves, sandy beaches, craters and the Halla mountain in the middle of the island. It offers eco-style accommodation and nature-based tours, and the USP of the destination for India is that it does not require a visa for a stay of  three months making it an ideal choice for MICE travel.

Moon Kyeong-Ho, Director-Marketing Business, Jeju Tourism Organization said, “Jeju is becoming a globally recognised destination over other popular island destinations. It has favourable weather conditions throughout the year and there are unique attractions to look forward to in every season. For incentive groups, we offer a wide range of team building and leisure activities such as horseback riding, golfing, scuba diving, amusement parks, yachting and wind surfing. We are looking forward to welcoming over 20 million tourists to Jeju Island in the coming year. We are looking at our partners to promote the destination in India and make it a preferred choice among Indian travellers.”

Lee Jae Sang, Director, KTO – New Delhi Office, said, “Jeju is a world-class destination. Jeju Island witnessed over 2.3 million inbound arrivals last year. On the MICE front as well, Jeju experienced an increase from both China and Thailand with over 1,000 and 2,000 incentive groups respectively. This year, we expect more than 24,000 Indian arrivals and over 300 incentive groups from India.”

Jeju Island is well connected to Beijing, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka and Hong Kong by direct flights. For Indians, the ideal route is via Hong Kong which makes it convenient as Hong Kong offers Visa-on-Arrival service, and Jeju Island does not require a visa. Cathay Pacific Airways operates ten weekly flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Hong Kong, further connecting to Jeju (two-hour flight) by Dragonair, four times a week.
