Taiwan short films promote tourism industry

Taroko Gorge in Hualien County

Taroko Gorge in Hualien County is one of Taiwan’s many tourist sites featured in the Tourism Bureau’s upcoming promotional short films.

A series of short films promoting Taiwan’s tourist attractions abroad are being commissioned by the Tourism Bureau under the ROC Ministry of Transportation and Communications.

Since Taiwan-made movies have won accolades at world-renowned film festivals and generated strong interest among foreign nationals, it makes sense to further promote the country’s tourism merits through this popular medium, the bureau said May 14.

A 10-minute short produced in collaboration with local producer Hsu Li-Kong and director Leading Lee, the first film is adapted from the pair’s upcoming release “Anywhere, Somewhere, Nowhere.”

The movie is about two young men’s 182-day tour around Taiwan on a motorcycle, and the many warm-hearted strangers they encountered along the way. During the two-wheeled voyage of discovery, they learned to better understand each other and themselves.

According to the bureau, the short features such famous tourist spots as Chiayi County’s Alishan, Orchid Island off the coast of Taitung County and Taroko Gorge in Hualien County. The film also spotlights the friendliness of people in Taiwan and many local delicacies—two of the nation’s top attractions for foreign visitors.

The shorts will be produced in Chinese, English and Japanese so as to better tap the international market, the bureau said. (DF-JSM)
