The Kerala Tourism Department is gearing up for the onrush of domestic and foreign tourists to the shores of the state. With the ‘Dream Season’ campaign, to promote tourism during off-season, the Tourism Department expects to lure in additional  tourists from Gulf countries during the April-September period, normally considered as a dull season for tourism in state.

The Dream Season campaign will be held in June-August period. As part of the campaign, a Facebook application will be created to brand Kerala tourism. Advetisements will be displayed at Delhi Metro stations and In-flight promotion will also be given.

The state government has allotted Rs 1.32 crore for the campaign.”Influx of international tourists wanes in the state during off-season: April-September. But, it is a field day for domestic travellers during this period as the summer holidays for schools in North India falls during this season.

With the campaign, we plan to lure the domestic tourists. As part of the branding initiative, 25 billboards across various stations of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation covering south and west Delhi and inflight advertising and ads on boarding passes will be given,” a communication from the Tourism Department said.

The inflow of tourists from Europe dips during June-September owing to monsoon.

The overall revenue of the tourism sector surged from Rs 20,430 crore in 2012 to Rs 22, 927 crore in 2013. The average stay of an international tourist in Kerala has also increased to 18.6 nights during the same period from 17.1 nights per visitor in 2012.
